FARM
HOLIDAYS IL CANTICO DELLA NATURA
When Francesco
and Monia Micci first saw the farm and old abandoned
farmhouse in 1999, they were struck not only
by the beautiful location overlooking a charming
part of Lake Trasimeno, but also by the fascination
and energy of the place which combined the austereness
of stone structures with the plasticity of a
pristine natural environment in a harmony of
colors, scents, and sounds.
This profound contact with the place and the
choice of a lifestyle based on nature, tradition,
and spirituality give birth to the plan of purchasing
the farm in order to create an accommodation
structure that would be a place for gathering,
for well-being, for spirituality.
With our previous experience as experts on local
development and tourism, we sought to combine
our professional and personal experience with
the strength, energy and fascination of the
place to establish a place of sojourn characterized
by the connection between man and the elements
of the universe.

The Cantico della Natura casale, or farmhouse,
is built entirely from local stone and is divided
into two connected wings, which were built in
two separate periods. The southeast wing goes
back to the early 1800s, and the north wing
was constructed in the early 1900s; they harmonize
perfectly into a single L-shaped building admirably
situated so that it receives direct sunlight
from dawn to dusk, glittering on the waters
of Lake Trasimeno, creating an enchanting place
for relaxation. Entirely secluded (the village
of Montesperello and the nearest farmhouse are
1 km away), the Cantico della Natura farmhouse
stands in a clearing where centuries-old olive
trees grow, and which opens onto the lake after
passing through a wood. Fed by a perennial water
spring that in the past filled the reservoirs
of all of Montesperello, the farmhouse was home
to a number of families all living together
(about 20 persons) who grew olives and grain
and raised livestock. Many old-timers who were
born and lived in the casale still remember
the hard work and the pleasant evenings spent
before the fireplace in the company of an accordion,
and even today they enjoy taking part in the
running of the farm.

Il Cantico
della Natura is an agricultural-forest farm
and farm holiday establishment located amid
the green hills of Lake Trasimeno in the natural
setting of a 42-hectare estate of considerable
intensity. The charming landscape surrounding
the farmhouse alternates between a centuries-old
olive grove with 500 trees, clusters of centuries-old
pines, an ancient chestnut wood, a timber wood,
cultivated fields, and the young orchard.
The view of the lake can be enjoyed from various
spots, often in the company of small native
hares, pheasants, and many species of small
birds which can be easily seen thanks to the
nearby nature reserve.
The property has no fences whatsoever, and there
are numerous trails for trekking and horseback
riding, made especially pleasant during certain
periods of the year by gathering the abundant
natural fruits offered by the farm (apricots
and plums in summer; strawberry-tree fruit,
hazelnuts and almonds in autumn, persimmons
in winter, cherries and wild asparagus in spring).
The location is also the ideal starting point
for longer treks (on foot, horseback, or mountain
bike, organized by us) through the hills surrounding
Lake Trasimeno.
From a productive viewpoint, Il Cantico della
Natura is an entirely organic farm, specialized
in various niche products with great attention
to quality, the use of traditional harvesting
and processing methods, and the recovering of
flavors from the past. Offered as a welcome
to our guests, these products are used in our
cooking and can be purchased at the shop.

The Cantico
della Natura farm and farm holiday establishment
is located in Vocabolo la Penna in Montesperello
di Magione, amid the green Umbrian hills with
a splendid view of Lake Trasimeno, at an elevation
of 450 meters. Just 5 km from the Autostrada,
the farm is easily reached and is located in
a strategic position for visiting Umbria and
central Italy (3 km from Lake Trasimeno, 15
km from Perugia, 35 km from Assisi , 70 km from
Siena, 120 km from Florence, 200 km from Rome).
We are easily reached by all means of transportation
and from various roads and directions.
a) by car
From either
Florence-Rome or from Perugia, take the expressway
to the Magione exit. When exiting from the expressway
turn right toward the town of Magione, and after
approx. 1 km turn left at the first intersection
in the direction for Chiusi - S. Arcangelo.
After about 2 km you come to a railroad bridge;
pass under it, and just 20 meters after the
bridge turn left, following the sign for Montesperello.
After another 2 km there is another turnoff
on the right, which passes by a small bar and
grocery store and then rises up to the old village
of Montesperello. About 500 meters of unpaved
road lead to an open space with a concrete platform
and a few historic buildings at the sides. On
the right side next to an old abandoned church
there is an unpaved road that goes up toward
the small cemetery of Montesperello. Take the
first (and only) turn to the right, and go 1
km down the road through the woods that leads
to Il Cantico della Natura.
b) by bus
Daily runs
connect the main Italian cities with Perugia,
from which there is shuttle service at .. o'clock
for Magione.
c) by train
Trains from
both Florence-Rome and Perugia stop at Magione
station, only 3 km from Il Cantico della Natura,
where you will be met and accompanied to the
farm.
d) by plane
Perugia
airport (with daily flights for Milan and Rome
and some special flights in summer) is 30 km
from Il Cantico della Natura, which can be reached
from the airport by means of a 20-minute taxi
ride.
